ICONIUM

Are you a fan of Greek mythology? Some of my kids are learning about it in school right now. The city Iconium got its name from the root word eikon, the Greek word for “image.” That word connects to Greek mythology, when after a great flood (likely inspired by Noah’s flood) the gods Prometheus and Athena formed human images from mud and breathed life into them.[1] Known for its beautiful gardens, the thriving city of Iconium was set right in the midst of farms and orchards, though it was surrounded by deserts. Iconium was located along the main trade route between Ephesus and Syria and the Mesopotamian world, which contributed to the hustle and bustle of industry as well as orchard and farm enterprises.[2]
